The Australian Boys Choir they provide outstanding music education and instruction to help talented young singers to develop and learn to shine. They give boys the instruments and opportunities to build their life and musical skills. They encourage boys to discover their voice and encourage them to try their hand at.
The people they serve come from diverse languages and cultural backgrounds. They are open to the diversity of their many ways and give everybody a chance.
They recognize Aboriginal as well as Torres Strait Islander peoples as the First Australians and Traditional Custodians of the land where they live, study and work.
They collaborate alongside families to cater to the needs of their children and collaborate to foster the development of their children. They are convinced of the power of each person and their music can encourage us all to work towards excellence. In addition, they are determined to be friendly, welcoming, and welcoming to all participants in their Australian Boys Choir.
On the 20th of October 1939, a handful of singers gathered in Melbourne for the initial rehearsals for the Australian Boys Choir. It was the start of a long and exciting journey to recognition as the nation’s “first and most prestigious choir for boys and young men.
Mixing old and modern and interspersing masterworks from the past with unique new sound The vocals from the Australian Boys Choir come together in a variety of repertoire that spans six centuries. The Choir is refreshed and rejuvenated with its outstanding young singers. With a level of musical sophistication that never ceases to amaze the audience. It continues to entertain and delight audiences across all over the world.
The Choir is an authority in choral education as well as performance, with choristers chosen through auditions. A rigorous program of training built on the principles used by Hungarian composer Zoltan Kodaly, Kodaly gives instruction in areas such as the development of aural skills, music literacy and development of vocals, but it also helps boys develop vital life and social abilities.
As an ambassador for culture the Choir has toured extensively throughout the world and has been frequently featured on both television and radio, as well as performing the first performances of numerous new and significant works. As well as performing with some of most renowned orchestras in the world and orchestras, including Melbourne Symphony, the Israel Philharmonic and Melbourne Symphony and has performed under many notable conductors – internationally renowned maestros like Zubin Mehta, Hiroyuki Iwaki and John Hopkins most prominently.
In its 80-year existence it has been privileged to have been featured as Opera Australia, the Australian Ballet as well as on the soundtrack of many critically acclaimed films, including The Oscar nominated Elizabeth as well as the Australian box office smash The Dish.
